Startup Garage was started as a collaboration project in Malmö in 2010 by three entrepreneurs:
Erik Starck, an agile innovator with a background in web and telecom.
Patrik Gullstrand, open source entrepreneur and CEO of Örestad Linux AB.
Stefan Mossberg, with a background in the events and media business and as a founder of one of the first “pure” web agencies in Sweden.
All of us share a love for entrepreneurship and disruptive innovations. We made the following observations:
- The startup world is changing and Sweden is not keeping up. The “innovation system” in Sweden is stuck in a legacy model of how innovative ideas turn to profitable businesses.
- Startup Accelerators like YCombinator, Startup Bootcamp (based in Copenhagen) or Techstars are one of the key drivers of change, made possible by the decreasing cost of launching a web based business. Sweden has nothing similar.
- The lean startup movement is bigger than just startups, it will transform how business is made in the 21st century.
Based on this we decided to become a positive force in the Swedish startup-o-sphere and an active driver of change. Our mission consists of:
- Helping entrepreneurs go from idea to business.
- Helping investors find good entrepreneurs.
- Helping companies mine innovations from within themselves.
Our goal is to set up a startup accelerator in Sweden. This includes the entire ecosystem around the accelerator: customers willing to buy innovative products, investors and entrepreneurs with the right mindset, exit partners etc.
This will take time and we can not do it ourselves. Feel free to contact us if you share our vision and want to help.
Startup Garage is currently not incorporated as an AB. This will change in the near future.
